It's long been known by the locals that golfing is one of
the Geelong Otway region's leisure sport highlights, and the latest
edition of Ausgolf's 'The Golf Course Guide' has hand-picked five
of the region's public access courses in its selection of
Australia's best, featuring two new additions to this guide, now in
its 18th edition.
Barwon Heads golf course came in highest
for the region, listing at number seven, with Thirteenth Beach
courses placing twice, at number 11 for its Beach Course, and
number 33 for its Creek Course. Two new entries to the guide in
2012 are The Sands Torquay, ranked number 48 and Curlewis, placed
at number 50.
Listing 100 courses in total, The Ausgolf Golf Course
Guide is held in high regard by players and clubs alike and
inclusion means a boost in attention from both the locals and
holidaying golf players.
For the Curlewis course especially, this is welcome news
after working hard to overcome the effects of severe droughts to
become a course that people will talk about and visit.
"Being placed in the guide will put us on the map and
places Curlewis up there alongside some of
Australia's best-loved courses. We're thrilled
to be included, as we've made huge changes to ensure the course is
not affected in ways it has been in the past. It's a great coup for
the club!" says Curlewis Club Manager Mathew

been recognised. "Our golf courses are reputed by players and
locals alike to be some of the best in
Australia, and deserve this recognition. To have
five courses in the top 50 is excellent news and gives visitors
even more reason to come to the region."
The region boasts a range of public golf courses
spanning from Geelong to The Bellarine,
throughout the SurfCoast and
along the Great Ocean Road, and arguably
some of the best views to be enjoyed during a round of
golf.
