Travelling across Port Phillip Bay just got a whole lot easier,
with Searoad Ferries cutting fares on a range of sailing
options.
Families are the biggest winners under the new fare structure,
with a family of two adults and up to three children paying just
$60 return as foot passengers, down from $88, a saving of more than
30 percent. A family travelling with a car now pay $73 one-way,
down from $85.50.
The fare overhaul means concession tickets are now available to
car passengers as well as foot passengers, infants and bicycles
travel free, and all vehicle prices now include the driver's ticket
too. Extra savings can also be made on a variety of fare types by
booking online prior to travel.
Searoad Ferries' CEO Matt McDonald said the reduced fares on
many of the sailing options were the result of simplifying the
pricing system, which had become too complicated over time.
"We do regular customer surveys and our customers were
constantly asking for things like more concession tickets, family
ticket prices, discounts on return travel and including the driver
in the car price," Mr McDonald said
"The fare changes reflect this and we will also be launching a
Local Residents card soon, which will offer discounts for
locals."
Other fare savings include: a car and driver online ticket for
$53 one-way, down from $61.50; and a car, driver plus one passenger
online ticket for $62 one-way, down from $69. Great foot passenger
pricing, such as $9 one-way online tickets (or $8 concession), make
hopping aboard a cinch.
Mr McDonald said customers who regularly travelled on Searoad
Ferries would still receive further discounts by joining the
membership program, saving up to 35 percent on fares.
As well as the new fares, passengers can also enjoy upgraded
facilities aboard the MV Queenscliff, which underwent a
multi-million dollar facelift last year.
Changes include a refurbished lounge with 360-degree views, free
WiFi, a new children's playground, free newspapers and quality
espresso coffee. Regular events, such as the bi-monthly High Tea on
the High Seas, live music and kids' activities during school
holidays, are also offered on select departures.
Searoad Ferries transports more than 700,000 people a year
between Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula and Queenscliff on The
Bellarine. The company does 24 crossings a day, 365 days a year,
and has carried everything from a circus troupe to farm equipment
across the bay.
