On the Northernmost tip of the Bellarine Peninsula,
Portarlington is only 44km from Melbourne as the seagull flies
across Port Phillip Bay. On a clear day you can see the Melbourne
city skyline on the horizon.
The main street climbs a slight hill, providing spectacular
views as you browse through shops or eat and drink al fresco.
Many of the best food producers and wineries are clustered
around Portarlington so it's an excellent base for those embarking
on a Bellarine Taste Trail tour.
The pier is a fascinating stroll, with plenty of boats -
including the town's mussel fleet - berthed here, some selling
seafood direct from the boat. You can usually find a local
fisherman or two wetting a line from pier's edge.
