The hinterland areas of the Otways, including the towns of Forrest and Birregurra, are the third largest volcanic plain in the world. This geology gives the whole area a fertility, lushness and undulating hills that make it pretty as a picture.
Birregurra is delightful and absolutely oozes country charm. Food produced in these hills has a freshness and honesty rarely found in modern products. The town itself is charming, with wonderfully restored facades on buildings giving it a historic and reminiscent feeling.

For foodies visiting Birregurra, be sure to spend some time exploring the amazing farm gates, growers and producers, breweries and winemakers of the Otway Harvest Trail.
The nearby township of Forrest has become a hub for mountain bike activity in the region, with purpose built mountain bike trails and a series of associated events throughout the year. It also has a boutique brewery, quirky local cafe and a diverse and eclectic calendar of events.
