Golf

With five of the top fifty rated public access courses in Australia located within this region it's little wonder many of the visitors who arrive are toting a set of golf clubs.

As well as some fantastic and historic tree-lined country courses, there is a series of newer links-style developments that are attracting attention among the golf community.

The Bellarine is a hub for golfing activity - four of those five top-fifty courses are within this compact destination, the perfect place to visit for a golf weekend.  Some of the courses have accommodation on site and all have well regarded clubhouse facilities.

Barwon Heads Golf Club and the two courses at Thirteenth Beach Golf Links are all rated inside the top fifty, and all are within the seaside village of Barwon Heads.  The clubhouse at Barwon Heads is steeped in history, while the facilities at Thirteenth Beach include bar, restaurant, conference and accommodation facilities.  The fourth top-fifty entry for Bellarine is at Curlewis Golf Club, overlooking Port Phillip Bay.

The Sands at Torquay is also ranked inside the top fifty and hosts the annual Surf Coast Knockout, a PGA Tour event.  Located within the Peppers Resort complex, the course is close to the full range of hospitality and accommodation facilities.

Highlights

Portarlington Golf Club

Welcome to Portarlington Golf Club, an excellent 18 hole course on Victoria's beautiful Bellarine Peninsula. Portarlington is a tree lined, challenging course with a wonderful variety of golf holes, pure putting surfaces and excellent year round conditioning. The course, teamed with the Clubhouse, which offers extensive entertainment facilities and the bistro open daily, makes Portarlington Golf Club the leading leisure venue on the Bellarine Peninsula. The Club is a 90 minute drive from Melbourne, and located only 900 metres from the waterfront at Portarlington.

Bellarine Golf

The Bellarine really is paradise for golfers. With four courses inside the top fifty public access courses in Australia for 2012 (as rated by Ausgolf), it is an ideal destination to pack the clubs and try your hand at some of the most challenging and breathtaking courses in the country. In addition to these nationally renowned links courses, there are several tree lined country courses that welcome casual players.

Bellarine Adventure Golf

Set on six acres with beautifully landscaped gardens, Bellarine Adventure Golf has two magnificent 18 hole courses. They are great for any weather with both courses providing plenty of shelter from the sun or rain. Each course incorporates real sand and water hazards to keep you on your toes and those scores honest. People of all ages can play and they have putters to suit the smallest of kids through to the biggest.

Clifton Springs Golf Club

Clifton Springs Golf Club is a Mike Clayton designed 18 hole course. The course has superb Legend turf fairways and is located about an hours drive from the Westgate Bridge near the town of Drysdale where full facilities are available. The club is the best located course on the Bellarine Peninsula and with superb views of Corio Bay across to Avalon Airport. The sight of the many ships sailing past as you play the course is a sight that will be remembered forever. Being central to Port Phillip Heads and Geelong in the middle of the Bellarine Wine District with easy access to both surf and bay beaches it is perfect for a day or weekend visit. The course has an excellent dining area that has views to dream about and would make any occasion a memorable one. The Club's Open Week is held in November each year. Entry forms can be obtained by contacting the club or via our website.

Curlewis Golf Club

Situated on a sandy base with a minimum of trees and naturally undulating couch fairways this Vern Morcom designed links type course has maintained its position as one of the best on the Bellarine Peninsula and has been further enhanced by a recent Michael Clayton Master Plan. With challenging bunkers and firm and fast greens, it is the wind however that often determines the level of playing difficulty. The course measures 6150 metres from the championship marks and is a challenging par-72. A challenge for players of all standards and a true test of golfing ability. Green fee players welcome. 6100 metre Par 72 course Large contoured greens Naturally undulating couch fairways Well Bunkered, links style layout On the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula, Victoria One hour from Melbourne 10 minutes from Geelong

Queenscliff Golf Club

Queenscliff Golf Club provides a unique Island setting with fresh air, natural beauty and tranquillity. A friendly vibrant Golf Club surrounded by natural habitat. The beauty of the course is not lost on the golfers, as it changes with the time of day and the change of seasons. The big advantage of having a course built on an Island made up of drifting sand, is that the course is a true all weather course. Regardless of heavy rain, you'd need to step into Swan Bay or a water hazard to get your feet wet. The tranquillity is only disturbed by the train whistle from the Bellarine Steam Train and local birdlife. Significant birds found on the Island include the Orange Bellied Parrot, the Royal Spoonbill, Magpies, Plovers, Swans and Pelicans.
