The Swing Bridge Café is a simple weatherboard building done with a beach-shack chic fit-out sitting right on the sandy beach of the Erskine River mouth at the foot of the iconic suspension ‘swing bridge’.
Drive from Lorne to Apollo Bay.
There are many opportunities to stop along the way - and you'll want to becasue this section of the road is spectacular. You can grab a snack at Wye River or Kennett River (where you can also meet the local koalas and King Parrots).
Dinner & overnight - Apollo Bay
Breakfast at one of the many cafes in Apollo Bay then go for a swim or stroll on the 3km long stretch of beach.
Take an afternoon drive through the rain-forest along Turtons Track to Beech forest and take in Hopetoun Falls and the Redwoods before heading to the 12 Apostles coast and Port Campbell. There are a number of great dinner options in Port Campbell.
Take in the spectacular 12 Apostles at sunset then return to Port Campbell where you can stay overnight.
Explore the Shipwreck coast and discover the lesser known limestone formations such as Loch Ard Gorge and the Bay of Islands - brimming with history.
In Warrnambool you can find out more about what you've just seen at Flagstaff Hill Maritime museum and then take the inland journey back along the Princes highway, stopping in at villages along the way.
