APOLLO BAY - ROAD TRIP ALONG THE GREAT OCEAN ROAD
The first thing I wanted to mention, was our first stop at the Apollo Bay Bakery to try their famous Scallop Pie. I was super excited to try this out. I’ve always seen meat based pies, so to try a seafood pie was pretty interesting. I can see why the bakery is a highly recommended place to go and I would absolutely suggest it to anyone road trippin’ the Great Ocean Road.
AN OTWAYS LONG WEEKEND - PART 1: EXPLORING CAPE OTWAY AND SURROUNDS
It’s around three and a half hours from home in Melbourne’s northern suburbs to the Australian mainland’s second most southern point, Cape Otway. We’ve made an early start for the first day of our Otways adventure, so we’re all relieved to finally be getting amongst it.
AN OTWAYS LONG WEEKEND - PART 2: OTWAY FLY TREETOP WALK & ZIPLINE
We’re about to walk through the doors of the Otway Fly Visitor Center and we’re resigned to the fact that The Fairy Princess isn’t tall enough to zip line. Lori has offered to take her to the treetop walk and the playground instead, while they wait for us. She was disappointed about the zip lining at first, but now she’s excited about the treetop walk and a couple of hours alone with mum.
AN OTWAYS LONG WEEKEND - PART 3: E-BIKING, PLATYPUS SPOTTING, AND CASISBROOK FALLS
“Now, let’s just give you a go on this little bike,” Nathan says. “If I’m satisfied and your parents are satisfied that you can do it, we can head off. Otherwise, I’ll hook up the trailer and you can just kick back while we do all the work.”
CLOSE ENCOUNTERS AT GREAT OCEAN ROAD WILDLIFE PARK
For many travellers a trip to Melbourne also includes a visit to the famous Great Ocean Road. Its most memorable landscape feature, the Twelve Apostles, are just three hours from Melbourne, perfect for a day trip or a weekend away.
