Because your dog needs a holiday too!

It’s been a tough year, and while many of us are at home planning where we’ll go as soon as we have more freedom to travel, those with a dog in the household are wondering where we can take our bestie….

With separation anxiety in our dogs set to be unprecedented, following a long period of full attention, it’s even more important to consider travelling with your dog.

For short (or long!) breaks with your dog, the Great Ocean Road is ideal. There are plenty of dog friendly beaches and some beautiful accommodation in the Great Ocean Road region where you dog will be welcome.

Here are our TOP 5 places to stay with your dog…

1. Coast Cottages - Apollo Bay

Ocean Frontage and direct access to the beach? Yes please! Coast Cottages, on Sea trees farm near Marengo. The three charming cottages are a delight for your dog, who will be welcomed indoors. The beach adjacent to the property offers off-leash fun all year round

2. Glenaire Cottages - Glenaire

Glenaire Cottages are on a large rural property, close to Castle Cove and Johanna Beach (which is dog friendly). Each dog-friendly cottage has a fenced area and your dog will be pleased to know that cats are not allowed!

3. Beeches by the Sea - Apollo Bay

In the heart of the thriving Great Ocean Road town of Apollo Bay, Beeches by the Sea offers charming accommodation just a short walk from Apollo Bay’s main beach and shops. Take your dog for an outing to the Great Ocean Road Brewhouse for an afternoon refreshment – yes, they have dog beer!

4. Countrywide Cottages - Otways

Countrywide Cottages offer an exclusive getaway for your bestie, with added touches such as home-made pet treats. Close to the Great Otway National Park the hosts will let you know exactly where you’re allowed to take your dog nearby. We suggest the Lake Elizabeth Circuit Walk – one of the few walks in the National Park where dogs on leads are allowed.

5. Cherry Tree Creek Cottages - Lorne

Nestled behind Lorne, here you can choose between 2 cottages, both equipped to make your dog’s stay a great one. The cottages are just a short walk to the town centre and beach but have a sense of seclusion in pretty bush surrounds.
