HOW’S THE SERENITY? HOW TO SLOW DOWN IN TORQUAY

by GLENN BENSON

To me, the ultimate family summer holiday in Australia, is putting the keys on the fridge, forgetting about your cares and just going with the flow.

Serenity holiday accommodation in Torquay on the Great Ocean Road invokes exactly that: a sense of calm, slowing down and taking each day as it comes.

No schedules, no traffic, no cooking (unless someone volunteers!)…just a chance to get right back to the basics of a good old fashioned holiday by the beach.

Here’s why I think our luxury townhouses are a great place for families and groups to stay at any time of the year, but particularly in summer:

They are big, bright and spacious

We have two modern town houses side-by-side, each with spectacular ocean views and massive north facing windows that let in lots of natural warmth and light.

Each has four bedrooms and two living areas, so there’s plenty of room for people to congregate, or to sneak away from some peace and quiet with a book.

And, if other friends or relatives want to spend part of the summer break with you, they can conveniently book the townhouse next door. You can take turns hosting the barbecues!

You can have cocktails with a view

After a long hot day at the beach, the kids can settle in for a movie whilst the adults upstairs to the third-level cocktail room with 180 degree views of the ocean.

The air-conditioned lounge area is where you can enjoy a cold beer, wine or have some fun making up your own cocktails. I’d recommend stopping in at one of our local wineries to pick up supplies on the way here.

We are right next to the beach

Fisherman’s Beach is close enough that everyone can just come and go all day as they please for a beach walk, swim or sun bake. Or, if you feel like a surf, you can wander to the nearby front beach or Point Danger.

There’s a spa and outside shower

Each townhouse has its own eight-person outdoor spa, with adjustable heating. The spa area is really pretty at night surrounded by garden lights.

And, when you get back from the beach, you can just jump under a cool or warm outside shower to wash off the sand before you go inside - or jump in the spa.

Catch up on movies

If watching an entire movie from start to finish is your idea of holiday relaxation, we have Foxtel on four flat screen TVs. Laze on the big comfy couch after your morning swim, or stay up late on your own. Remember, you don’t have to get up early, so make the most of it.

To cook, or not to cook?

Our kitchens are equipped with everything you need to cook a meal, but if you would rather be relaxing, there are lots of places in Torquay where you can grab a take-out meal or cheap bites.

Or, you can cook up an easy feast on the barbecue and dine outside on the deck overlooking the ocean.
