OUR 24 HOURS OF RELAXATION AT DEEP BLUE HOTEL + HOT SPRINGSby MAX & FAYE MARTIN
On the last night of our recent trip along the Great Ocean Road (our second visit to the region), we decided to switch the tent for a luxury penthouse suite at the Deep Blue Hotel and Hot Springs in Warrnambool.
The weather had been misty and moody when we drove through the Otways, but when we arrived at Warrnambool the sun was shining, the parks were full of families making the most of the city spaces and the ocean water was crystal blue with perfect swimming conditions!
Friendly staff and a balcony room
After a quick dip in the ocean, we arrived at the Deep Blue Hotel reception and were received with a warm welcome from staff, making us feel special from the get go.
Our newly renovated penthouse apartment was light and bright and we had our own kitchen, laundry and balcony. It was great to get our washing done after several days of camping, whilst we put our feet up and enjoyed a cup of tea on the balcony, with views of Stingray Bay.
Our dinner exceeded expectations
The Deep Blue Hotel conveniently has it's own bar and restaurant, so we didn't have to go far for a dinner date.
It's a beautiful set up with a menu that exceeded our expectations. First, we dined on sesame and shallot crusted brie; drizzled with honey and, when cut, molten cheese spilled out.
Then, Max had the reef and beef and I opted for the Fijian curry. Our waitress highly recommended my dish and she was right - it was so good that the lamb literally melted in my mouth. The chef here is from Fiji and features a different meat each night.
With full tummies we tumbled into our very comfy bed and sleep came easy (it was nice not to hear the wind and rain rattling our tent for a change!).
A morning soak in geothermal waters
What's better than waking up and going for a swim? Well, I can tell you!
Waking up and having a choice of 15 geothermal pools of various temperatures and therapeutic benefits to choose from.
The new Deep Blue Hot Springs sanctuary is just sensational. We arrived at 9am and had the place to ourselves for almost an hour, before other guests wandered in for their session.
We tested our bodies with hot and freezing cold dips, and let waterfalls of geothermal water wash over us. There are caves, rock crevice walk-throughs and bubbling pools of all shapes and sizes - all surrounded by beautiful gardens of colourful flowers and green grass.
When we were hungry, we ate in the sanctuary's Nourish Dome, which serves up healthy meals, nutrient-rich smoothies, snacks and coffee.
We had the best sleep EVER
With everything we needed at our fingertips for the four-hour session we were there, it was very hard to leave!
But, when we did eventually leave, we were feeling so intensely relaxed that all we could do was head back up to our room and sleep.
I can honestly say it was the best and deepest sleep I've had in years!
We recommend this resort!
If you are in desperate need for some rest and relaxation away from the city, we highly recommend you spend a few days at this hotel located on Warrnambool's beautiful foreshore, featuring the only geothermal baths of this kind in Western Victoria.
