5 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD STAY AT 'THE CALLY'by LUCAS REID
When you’re visiting regional Victoria, staying at a modern pub like The Cally, can be loads of fun.
You can relax in the warm, comfortable restaurant, chin wag with the locals next to the fireplace in the bar, or place a cheeky bet in the TAB.
It’s also convenient.
You’re guaranteed a magnificent meal, a great selection of regional wines or craft beer…and your comfy bed is just upstairs.
Our beautiful historic pub is in the heart of Warrnambool and is a great place to base yourself, particularly if you’re travelling solo, or with another person.
There’s guest parking and we are in walking distance to the shops, cafes, art galleries and a few minutes’ drive to the Lady Bay foreshore and ocean look outs.
Here are 5 reasons why you should stay at The Cally’ as part of your Great Ocean Road adventure!
1. It’s great value
Our guest lodgings are inexpensive - yet safe, clean and comfortable. This frees up your budget to spend at places like our fantastic local markets. Our pub meals are well priced, too. And, because everything is in one spot (food, drinks and accommodation), you save on fuel.
2. You can hang out with the locals
We have weekly meal specials: steak on Tuesday, parma on Wednesday and burgers on Thursday, which attract the locals. On Saturday nights, we have live music. If you’re keen to get to know the locals, they’ll be only too pleased to share stories about the town and some secret spots to visit.
*My favorite place is the Tower Hill volcanic crater, because of its cultural significance, beautiful walks, wildlife (including emus and koalas) and bird population. It’s just 10 minutes from Warrnambool and you can explore the park for free, or go on a guided tour.
3. Our pasta marinara is famous
If you love seafood, our pasta marinara is a hit with the locals. Our menu is modern pub fare and we change it up to keep things exciting (but keep the favorites). Visitors often say how impressed they are with the high standard of food we offer (which caters for all dietary requirements) - matched with an equally impressive drinks list.
4. We change our reds by-the-glass
We have a core range of wine on offer, but, during the cooler months we always change our reds by-the-glass. This gives our patrons an opportunity to sample wines from different regions in Australia, including right here in South West Victoria. Make sure you give us feedback on the wine, and how it went with your meal.
5. We have queen rooms
The accommodation layout upstairs is almost original (so you do have to share a bathroom), and we have some very comfortable queen rooms with heating and cooling, a fridge, LCD TV, WIFI and Netflix! There’s nothing better than having a hearty dinner, a few drinks in the bar and heading to bed for a good night’s sleep before heading off exploring the next day.
