Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie, is whisking up a new way to enjoy one of their most popular events as it prepares to present their Hot Chocolate Festival throughout August.

Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie is transforming their celebration of the winter warmer to enjoy ‘at home’ this year as well as at their sweet destination in Bellbrae.

“Our annual Hot Chocolate Festival usually brings thousands of visitors from all over Australia to our destination to indulge in our menu of 31 hot chocolates - but of course this year we had to bring it to life a little differently,” says owner Leanne Neeland.

The team of European Chocolatiers have devised ways to enjoy the Hot Chocolate Festival from home thanks to the creation of ‘do it yourself kits’ that can be ordered online and sent near and far. Dark, milk, white, ruby and caramelised couverture chocolate melts infused with different flavours form the basis of each DIY hot chocolate, while decadent interactive elements such as exploding marshmallows, gooey caramel dunking biscuits, truffle balls and pipettes are included to take at-home concoctions to the next level. There’s even a handcrafted marshmallow and an extra shot of couverture chocolate to accompany each DIY hot choc – just add your own choice of hot milk.

There’ll be the Hot Chocolate Festival Challenge ($160), with 31 boxes containing ingredients to melt, whisk and slurp all 31 different Festival creations to warm up each day of self-isolation in August. Try mixing a Golden Gay Time, Tim Tam Slam and Coconut Paradise, a Cherry Matcha and Tiramisu; even a Movie Night hot choc that comes with a mini marshmallow choc-top and petite popcorn dunks and a Smores, with a smoke infused marshmallow biscuit sandwich accompaniment. Or order your preferred selection of Hot Chocolate Festival flavours from the online menu or in store to create your own 16 Hot Chocolate Festival Box ($85) to share at home.

There’s also a Junior Favourites Box ($48) with eight whimsical warming drinks to concoct with the family such as a Magical Unicorn complete with mini meringue horns, a Chook Surprise with a mallow filled choc-egg and a Cookie Monster that creates a choc chip cookie flavoured blue hot chocolate.

Hot chocolate devotees can also order to DIY Hot Chocolate Spoons Kit ($28) with the finest couverture chocolate and exotic ingredients supplied to create 24 different ‘spoons’ to whisk into hot milk at home anytime.

Everyone can enjoy the European Chocolatiers Facebook Live sessions daily throughout August with virtual tastings of all 31 Festival flavours and tuition on whisking the perfect hot chocolate creation at home. Sessions kick off 11am on 1 August, and hosted every day of the month-long Festival. An online poll to vote for your favourite hot chocolate to win your body weight in 1kg couverture chocolate blocks completes the online transformation.

The Chocolaterie is offering the DIY Hot Chocolate Festival delights in store and via ‘click & collect’ for nearby chocolate fans or they’ll hit the road to deliver locally plus send carefully packed chocolatey goodness anywhere in Australia.

For locals of regional Victoria not in lockdown, the Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie will be whisking up their menu of 31 hot chocolate flavour in August in their stunning all day Café or to enjoy in their landscaped grounds.

“Customers love the creative fun our European Chocolatiers bring to this winter warmer and they’ve outdone themselves this year to create an at home version too,” says Ms Neeland.

Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery remains open 9-5pm to local and regional visitors: their showroom offers hundreds of handcrafted chocolates for contactless pick up, while an all day Café serves a menu of breakfast, lunch and desserts and fresh pastries a specialty.
