Local food and wine, hand selected by passionate food artisans isn’t that hard to come by on the Great Ocean Road. Through the Hinterlands there are 100’s of producers ranging for market gardeners and artisan producers. The Otway Harvest Trail includes a diverse mix of growers and makers producing wines, beers, farm-fed meats bred on the freest of ranges and the yummiest of jams and preserves, even better than Grandmas!

As you explore further west you’ll see you’re in true dairy country and around the 12 Apostles Coast and Hinterland you’ll find delicious cheeses (Apostle Whey, Timboon Cheesery, Shaw River Buffalo) and other delights of the dairy like Timboon Fine Icecream – a favourite of the South West. Visitors can experience many of these at farm-doors and outlets however some are more focussed on producing and supplying to restaurants and cafes both near and far – like the Greenacre in Apollo Bay.

The Timboon Railway Shed and Distillery is the perfect spot to restock on local produce. They produce their own award-winning whiskies along with variations including schnapps and other delicious liqueurs. A long list of local restaurateurs are also passionate about using as much local produce as possible to both support local growers and producers and help the environment by cutting down on food miles and packaging. The proof is in the pudding, so to speak – at places such as The Forrest Brewery, La Bimba (Apollo Bay), Forage on the Foreshore (Port Campbell), Hotel Warrnambool, The Merrijig Inn (Port Fairy).

Taking it to the next level, Schulz organic in Timboon are now aiming to eliminate plastic milk bottles,  bringing back reusable glass bottles to save 6 tonnes of plastic per year.

Good food requires good company. When in doubt head to Warrnambool where you’ll find live music almost every night or Port Fairy, the home of the Port Fairy Folk Festival, where the vibrant community of talented creators and musicians will entertain with live music and busking in the street all year round.
