Great South West Walk

Considered by many to be Victoria’s best long-distance hike, the Great South West Walk is a bushwalking trail suitable for most ages and abilities. With much of the natural landscape intact, the GSWW is located in one of Victoria’s most diverse regions, with over 950 plant species found along the walk and vibrant birdlife and animals, such as koalas, kangaroos and echidna, easily seen.

The 252 kilometres loop, which begins and ends in the historic city of Portland, takes walkers through the classic eucalypt forests of the Cobboboonee, along the tranquil Glenelg River, the wild and isolated beaches of Discovery Bay and the breath-taking cliffs and rocky capes west of Portland.

For the intrepid walker the loop can be completed in 10 to 14 days with 14 conveniently located campsites. It is also perfect for short half-hour walks, full-day walks and everything in between.
