Anglesea family fun 5

With an abundance of coastline, well serviced towns and villages, regional Visitor Information Centres, along with a hinterland area that has some of the most popular natural attractions in Australia, there are activities to suit every type of family along the Great Ocean Road.

The 12 Apostles region offers a range of free family fun including free binocular and telescope hire and digital detective and scavenger hunt programs. Enquire at the Port Campbell Visitor Information Centre.

Rock-pool rambling and beach activities at any number of the beaches in the region are always popular. You can learn to surf from Torquay, Lorne, Wye River, Warrnambool (and everywhere in between). Other water sports include boogie boarding, paddle boarding or try your hand at skim boarding in the shallows. Build sandcastles, play cricket or just enjoy a picnic and ice cream on the sand. The beach is the perfect place for families to spend some time reconnecting.

Otway Fly Treetop Adventures is exhilarating, where spectacular views of the forest from 30 mt above can be found. If you're feeling a bit more adventurous, strap on a helmet and go for a fly on their famous zipline tour. If that gets the blood pumping, go and check out the various lookouts, waterfalls and walks around the region such as the Surf Coast Walk and the Great Ocean Walk. But don't stop there! There are numerous tracks for little legs to explore.

If the kids are feeling a bit restless, throughout the region there are mini golf courses, outdoor trampoline parks, skate parks and loads of playgrounds and places to swim.  Oh - and did we mention the Lake Pertobe playground. The 'not your average' playground would have to be a key stop for any family with any kids under the age of 10. Fun here is an understatement!

Many of the museums and heritage attractions on offer have specific programs to keep the kids engaged and entertained too - learning by stealth! From the Australian National Surfing Museum in Torquay, to Flagstaff Hill in Warrnambool and across to the Portland Maritime Discovery Centre there's plenty to keep everyone busy.

Sporting activities are also great for families - and not just for your health! With horse riding tours in the Hinterland, bike riding on the tracks, swimming and water sports, there are plenty of activities on offer and places to visit that will get those fitness levels booming.
